This Is Me: Loving The Person You are Today” by Chrissy Metz
The wonderful woman who cuts and colors my hair had breast cancer surgery last month. She has had to take a leave of absence from her salon to take care of herself. While she has been away, I have missed talking to her, and one of the things we like to talk about best is the television shows we love to watch. I have never met anyone before who has the exact same television taste as me. We like fairy tales, love, romance and family dramas. One of the shows we love to talk about is “This is Us.” We have watched every episode and analyzed each one, too. The show is like nothing else I have ever seen on television. Each episode follows the Pearson family, and is infused with a sense of heart and soul that it difficult to quantify. I cry at least once each episode. One of the many strengths of the show is the actress Chrissy Metz. In her memoir “This is Me: Loving The Person You are Today,” Metz talks about how she went from having no money in her bank account to pay the rent, to being cast in this hit ABC series as Kate Pearson. She grew up poor in a trailer park in Florida, with an absent dad and a step-father who made her weigh herself to ridicule her. She later made her way to Hollywood where she worked as a personal assistant and a talent agent for children. She went on auditions, and even got a part on “American Horror Story.” However, her quest for a career to call her own was a long, hard journey that included selling makeup in a chain drug store., which she excelled at. Throughout her rise as an actress, she remains positive, optimistic and hopeful yet always realistic. She epitomizes the words authentic and genuine. She is the kind of actress you want and will to succeed because you know that when she becomes famous, she will appreciate it more than most. “This is Me” is a wonderful, insightful memoir from a terrific new actress to watch.
