Thicker Than Water by Kerry Washington
I have this weird penchant for drinking wine and pairing it with popcorn. When I first saw political fixer Olivia Pope consume the same combo on "Scandal," I thought this is a show for me. I watched every season of "Scandal," and loved it, most especially the lead actress Kerry Washington. She was smart, confident, powerful and well-dressed, Plus, surrounded by her team of gladiators, she could fix any problem in Washington, D.C., large or small. "Thicker Than Water" is a fascinating memoir by Washington about how she came to star in "Scandal," and become not only an actress but also a producer, director, and activist. In addition to her career, this memoir chronicles her relationship with her parents, as an only child growing up in New York. When she was little, she knew something was not quite with her family, but she could not put her finger on it. It took many years until she discovered her father's paternity was a giant question mark. Plagued by childhood trauma, insecurities, an eating disorder, and a host of other struggles, Washington writes beautifully of navigating her family along with Hollywood, marriage and motherhood to find her true self. In my book, she's pretty awesome. To buy this book on Amazon click here.
